Experimental and Modeling Studies of Sr<sup>2+</sup> and Cs<sup>+</sup> Sorption on Cryogels and Comparison to Commercial Adsorbents

In this work, two cryogels with the key monomers methacrylic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propansulfonic (named AAC SAC, respectively) various functional groups were used as adsorbents for removal of cesium strontium ions from aqueous solutions. Kinetics, equilibrium, column studies carried out including experiments in different water matrices (ultrapure, tap, river water) comparison to commercial adsorbents. reached sorption capacity 362 mg g–1 Cs+ 209 Sr2+, whereas SAC polymer showed maximum capacities 259 211 respectively. The five cycles adsorption/desorption a 8% loss effectiveness both cryogels. Batch kinetics adsorption data modeled by using rigorous diffusional model coupled novel fractal-like expression variable surface diffusivity. revealed that diffusivity dependence on time is nonmonotonic, occurrence maximum. Also, fluid film intraparticle transport resistances shown be important, internal one being more influential. materials (ion-exchange resin zeolite) tested Sr2+ ultrapure, water; results exhibit competitive effectiveness.
